Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path

The starting point of the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path is in Lindau on Lake Constance, not far from Eglofs. From there, the cycle path leads through the hilly landscape of the Allgäu to the famous Königssee. Along the way, you will not only pass scenic sights, but also cultural highlights such as the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, as well as numerous churches and picturesque old towns in the south of Bavaria.

Without detours, the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path is 455 km long and is located at an altitude of 400 to 1,000 meters. For the most part, the long-distance cycle route runs on roads with little traffic, but occasionally also on unpaved paths. The cycle path is signposted from both directions and can also be cycled in the opposite direction.

Why is it worth cycling the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path? The long-distance cycle path offers the opportunity to discover cultural sights and enjoy the unique landscape of the Alpine foothills at the same time.

The sights at a glance

The next larger town on the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle route is Bad Tölz. The town hall of this Bavarian town is particularly worth seeing. From Bad Tölz, continue in the direction of Tegernsee. If the weather is good, you should definitely stop for a swim.

The route then takes you through idyllic Upper Bavaria with its colorful flower meadows, green hills and traditional architecture. It’s not far to Lake Chiemsee, another lake that calls out for a swim. Past the Chiemsee, the route continues along the Traun river through shady forests towards Rosenheim.

From there, Königssee is not far away. On this section of the route, you can look forward to panoramic views over the Berchtesgaden Alps. Shortly before the end of the long-distance cycle route, you pass through the town of Bad Reichenhall, which is known for its history of salt mining. In Bad Reichenhall, you can also plan a detour to the old salt grotto and the spring building.

From here it is only 25 kilometers to Berchtesgaden. And these pass particularly quickly when you see the panorama. Through Berchtesgaden’s old town, then through the pedestrian zone overflowing with tourists, and a wonderful view of the long-awaited Königssee opens up before you.

The starting point of the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path in Lindau already has plenty of sights to offer. If you arrive by train, you can get off directly on the island of Lindau and cycle around the picturesque island town from there. A five-metre-high lion sculpture – also known as the Bavarian Lion – awaits you at the entrance to the harbour. A visit to a café in Lindau town center is also worthwhile.

On the way to Eglofs is Syrgenstein Castle, the only remaining castle in the Lindau district. From here it is not far to the Hotel zur Rose.

From Eglofs, the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path continues through the Allgäu, along the Alpsee towards Oberstaufen and Immenstadt. Füssen is also not far away, as are the famous royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. It is worth taking a longer break here to visit Neuschwanstein Castle. A tour of the town of Füssen is also worthwhile.

The Wieskirche church in Steinegaden is another cultural highlight on the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle route. The pilgrimage church has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983 and is considered one of the most famous rococo churches in the world. So you should definitely pay a visit to the Wieskirche.
